Synopsis

Based on a true story. In mid-19th century Sardinia, a marginalized deaf-mute becomes against all odds the most feared and dangerous assassin in a brutal feud between two families.

CRITICA

Già il titolo, Il Muto di Gallura, rivela un approccio datato e problematico: usa il termine ‘muto’ per riferirsi a una persona sorda. Inoltre, l’attore protagonista non è realmente sordo e nel film non viene utilizzata la lingua dei segni. Questo lascia intendere che non sia stato svolto un adeguato lavoro di ricerca sulla cultura sorda e sulla comunità delle persone sorde. Di conseguenza, l’opera offre una rappresentazione poco autentica e stereotipata della sordità, anziché valorizzare le esperienze e le identità delle persone sorde reali

CRITIC

The title itself, The Mute of Gallura, already reflects an outdated and problematic view of deafness by using the term “mute” to describe a deaf person. Furthermore, the lead actor is not actually deaf, and sign language is not used in the film. This suggests that little effort was made to research Deaf culture or engage with the Deaf community. As a result, the film presents an inauthentic and stereotypical portrayal of deafness rather than accurately representing the lived experiences, language, and identity of Deaf people.
