Silence

Synopsis

After an accident leaves her without her hearing, a young woman is challenged to accept her disability with the help of her ASL instructor and the support of the hearing impaired community.

DEAF FAKERS.

The film casts hearing actors to portray deaf characters, resulting in a lack of linguistic authenticity and accurate cultural representation.

Note: As @shae0911 pointed out in the comments: the use of the term “hearing impaired” suggests that the filmmakers did not do sufficient research. Many Deaf people prefer terms such as “Deaf” or “hard of hearing,” depending on the individual and context.

Overall, this is a film featuring hearing actors pretending to be deaf, with little evidence that the production team properly researched Deaf culture, Deaf experiences, or the appropriate language to use when representing the Deaf community.
