A Life With CI

Synopsis

From his Vimeo link:

“This animated short film is about my experience of losing my hearing and how I learned to hear again with the help of a cochlear implant.”

As a deaf or hearing-impaired person, it is often difficult to cope with everyday situations. We often encounter a lack of understanding and discrimination with our handicap. Just as blindness removes us from objects, deafness removes us from people. The film reflects this discrepancy in impressive, metaphorical images and shows us the cochlear implant as a solution, which really opened up a whole new world of hearing, connectedness and understanding for me.

TECHNIQUE: Studio LAVAMACHINE created this film entirely in Virtual Reality using AnimVR. The whole film should look like shot with one single moving camera. We also rendered out a mono and even a stereo 360° version for festivals!

Director: Piers Goffart, Eric Giessmann. Composer: Robert Wolf. Sound Design: Nicholas Heese. Special thanks to MedEL (super awesome partner to collaborate with! In the end they saw the potential in VR animation and at the same time the need of a voice for the hearing-impaired community.)
