Resident Evil: The Final Chapter

Synopsis

Picking up immediately after the events in Resident Evil: Retribution, Alice (Milla Jovovich) is the only survivor of what was meant to be humanity’s final stand against the undead. Now, she must return to where the nightmare began – The Hive in Raccoon City, where the Umbrella Corporation is gathering its forces for a final strike against the only remaining survivors of the apocalypse.

Note: There is a deaf girl of around ten years old. She is having some conversations in sign language with Alice (Milla Jovovich).

Scene of their conversation can be found on https://www.unusualverse.com/2019/05/sign-language-movie-serie-stories.html

One of the discussions on Quora on https://www.quora.com/In-Resident-Evil-Retribution-how-does-Alice-know-sign-language-to-speak-to-Becky:

By Rachel Bott:

Yeah it doesn’t really make sense. Even other characters seem to understand what she is saying. According to the Wiki “[Becky] was programmed to live a comfortable life in suburban Raccoon City (actually the “Suburbia” test-zone), with [the family of three] being programmed to be skilled at sign language.” (Becky). In this sense, I agree that Alice has a psychic connection with her clones, and thus “inherits” this ability to sign.

But what really bothered me was when Becky signs to Luther West, “I’m Becky.”, and then he says “Hi Becky.” without signing. Either this was a mistake, or during his time as leader of the Citadel Correctional Facility he somehow learned to understand sign language? (e.g. if one of the survivors was a signer and he wanted to be able to communicate with them?). And maybe he can only understand but not sign, so that’s why he simply spoke in response?? But this really stumped me.

On a side note: From the earlier source, the Becky page, “Becky was not originally intended to be deaf, but Milla Jovovich and Paul W.S. Anderson watched Orphan while on honeymoon in Mexico and were so impressed with Aryana’s acting they had the character re-written. Aryana was already cast by this point.[4]”.

**Update: I missed this part from the beginning, but the father told Becky her teacher wanted her to speak and sign (Which is just crazy and doesn’t work! You can’t communicate in 2 languages at the same time!) So I guess that’s how people manage to understand her.
