My Father A Man of Commitment (orig. Mon père, un homme engagé)

Synopsis

Jacques Sangla is one of the pioneers of the Deaf rights movement in France. Like many Deaf people of his generation, after growing up in an oral environment, he became aware later in life of the value of his Deaf identity, his culture, and his language, sign language. His efforts helped to bring visibility to the Deaf community in society and to secure a better future.

Today, his daughter Audrey picks up the camera to share the legacy he passed on to her. Deaf herself, she lives in a world different from the one in which he established himself. By creating a portrait of her father, both intimate and professional, she highlights the impact of his struggles on the current status of Deaf people.
