Synopsis
Based on a true story, this film tells the tale of two Deaf fellas in Boulder, Colorado. One night, as they play foosball, something remarkable happens. They encounter two opponents who openly mocks them, mimicking their signs. The Deaf players decide to challenge the opponents: whoever loses buys the other drinks.
The opponents quickly agree, not realizing who they’re up against. Throughout the hour, a remarkable phenomenon happens: the opponents quickly pick up gestures, and then signs. They evolve from being disrespectful to carrying on a full conversation with the Deaf players. That night, the four players learn more in that single hour than in any ASL course or program anywhere, and experienced epiphanies. The hearing players learn that deaf people are not stupid, unskilled, or worthless; rather, they are brilliant and talented. The deaf players learn that they have become assets simply by being the victors. They have to become the best in order to be embraced as part of the human race. This single encounter shows how to learn the language of the victors and becoming equals in the process.
